With daily routines now a thing of the past and the lives, and work habits, of many taking a dramatic shift, CasinoBeats is taking a few minutes out to enjoy a few of the brighter, quirky and touching moments that social media has served up in the last week.

So if you like a good lucky story, fancy a giggle or two or simply need any kind of sporting fix to get over the wave of cancellations, we hope the below satisfies those cravings.

Ronaldo, stick that down your pipe!

Once a highly regarded and talented centre forward, Dean Ashton’s footballing career unfortunately came to premature end in 2009 when the then West Ham United striker was forced into retirement due to injury.

Here the ex-Crewe Alexandra and Norwich City frontman watches back a selection of his best strikes while plying his trade with the Hammers, as sons Ethan, 12, and Lucas, 9, play pundit.

Birthday wishes

World War Two veteran Owen saw his 101st birthday party cancelled due to coronavirus, so a picture emanated on social media with one simple wish. Despite surpassing that with flying colours, I’m sure he’d appreciate one or two more well wishes.

That’s a shocker

SBC Towers is filled with fanatical football fans and despite all the rivalries that exist one commonality remains consistent, we, like many many others, love to see a horror miss. So sit back and enjoy the following 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

Fancy a trip to Iceland?

Proposing is equally one of the gratifying and terrifying moments all rolled into one, but what would you do if all those carefully laid plans were unexpected cancelled? Take note…

The show must go on

Self-isolation, quarantine and/or lockdown can play havoc with those daily training regimes, however, the individuals in the following two videos have a novel idea to combat that depending on the size of your budget.

This too shall pass

CasinoBeats’ home city of Manchester is no stranger to recent devastation, with the city’s Northern Quarter frequently adorned with good look messages in the form of graffiti. We are proud to say it has not disappointed this week.

Marathon man

Last year the Rugby League family rallied after Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. Charity events have continued aplenty since, with one most recent effort seeing Leeds Rhinos Director of Rugby, and longtime team-mate of Burrow, Kevin Sinfield completing a solo marathon.

With SBC, CasinoBeats marked its growing presence in Malta with an evening of complimentary drinks for 100 guests from the gaming sector, at the appropriately named Network Bar in St Julian’s.

Visitors came from across the betting and gaming community for a relaxed evening of drinks and networking. Guests joined CasinoBeats from a wide range of operators, suppliers and other stakeholders, including Altenar, Authentic Gaming, BetConstruct, CasinoGroundsLeoVegas, LetsbetMultilotto, NetellerPlay’n Go, Relax Gaming, Royal Panda and Wishmaker.

Trust is the defining characteristic of the international BetMGM brand rollout, LeoVegas CEO Gustaf Hagman tells the new edition of SBC Leaders magazine.

The cover feature of issue 34, published today, sees Hagman discussing life at LeoVegas following its acquisition by MGM Resorts two-and-a-half years ago.

Since the takeover, the Swedish operator has doubled the size of its workforce and taken on what its co-founder regards as exciting projects, meaning he continues to be enthusiastic about the relationship with the MGM team.

“The trust that they put in our hands to launch BetMGM globally. I mean, that’s massive. And that’s reflected in the number of new employees,” he says.

As well as tackling the job of taking the “powerful” BetMGM brand to European territories, Hagman’s team also has a key role in its launch in the newly-regulated Brazilian market.

“It’s a little bit of a new set-up for us,” admits Hagman. “Because it is a joint venture between MGM and Globo that operates it, and we’re providing the technology, product etc.”

Elsewhere in issue 34, Zsófia Bánhegyi, Chief Commercial Officer of Hungarian Lottery Szerencsejáték, discusses the company’s approach to modernisation as it attempts to see off competition from unlicensed operators targeting the country.

It has launched an affiliate network and rolled out state-of-the-art sportsbook technology, but Bánhegyi believes those kind things are simpler to change than entrenched attitudes.

“Perhaps the most challenging aspect for my company was not even initiating player-centered developments,” she says. “But rather changing the old, monopolistic corporate mindset and expanding our outlook to the global world.”

The magazine also features an interview with Gamstop CEO Fiona Palmer about the need for collaboration across the industry on player protection, while LiveScore Group’s Director of Regulatory Compliance Monika Naydenova outlines how to

avoid alienating customers with affordability checks, and Kambi CEO Werner Becher discusses the sports betting landscape in light of advances in technology.

In addition to interviews, there are issues-focused deep dives about topics including how to combat the growing black market, the future of live casino and the impact of the EU Digital ID framework on operators.

Read all this and much more in the digital edition of SBC Leaders Issue 34 here or pick up a print copy from the SBC Media (MC9) or SBC Events (2B10) booths at ICE in Barcelona later this month.

SBC will light up Rio de Janeiro with the highly anticipated INFINITY Rio party, happening on 27 February at the 2025 edition of SBC Summit Rio

With Grammy award-winning producer Afrojack at the helm and Brazilian house duo Dubdogz bringing their signature energy, this electrifying event promises an unforgettable night of music and excitement for the event attendees.

“INFINITY was born in Lisbon, where we kicked off our first EDM festival with top-tier DJs; Don Diablo, Miss Monique, and Darude. Now, we’re bringing that momentum to Rio with INFINITY Rio, taking things to a whole new level,” said Rasmus Sojmark, CEO & Founder of SBC.

In the gaming industry, connections are everything, and INFINITY Rio will provide a unique platform to meet the game-changers driving progress in Brazil. As an event organizer, SBC is known for elevating attendee experiences with VIP treatment, combining business opportunities with world-class networking. By integrating music and entertainment—longtime inspirations for gaming—into the closing party, SBC will offer an event finale that truly captures the energy of the gaming world.

EDM icon Afrojack rose to stardom with “Take Over Control,” becoming a key figure in the genre. Known for collaborations with Beyoncé, Pitbull, and Will.i.am, his accolades include spots on Rolling Stone’s “50 Most Important People in EDM” and Forbes’ “30 Under 30.” Moreover, the DJ’s 2020 track “All Night” climbed to the top of US dance radio charts and earned over 40 million streams, cementing his reputation as an EDM powerhouse.

Sojmark commented: “Having Afrojack headlining the first INFINITY Rio really shows just how massive SBC Summit Rio is going to be. Our delegates are in for an EDM festival experience that mixes world-class entertainment with top-tier networking.

“To give it that special Brazilian vibe, we’re also bringing in Dubdogz, an incredible homegrown duo that is taking the global scene by storm. We couldn’t miss the chance to showcase Brazil’s own talent at an event that’s all about Brazil!”

Dubdogz, Brazil’s twin sensations Lucas and Marcos Ruback are known for their dynamic blend of Brazilian Bass and House, chart-topping hits and a devoted fanbase. Among the few Brazilian acts on the “DJ Mag Top 100,” they’ve performed at iconic stages like Tomorrowland, EDC, and Ushuaïa Ibiza. Their track “Infinity,” a collaboration with Bhaskar, achieved Double Platinum status and surpassed 126 million Spotify streams.

The Riocentro Super Stage, a fresh addition to SBC Summit Rio, will shed its conference atmosphere to host the party, with Afrojack and Dubdogz setting the tone for the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, starting the next day on the 28th of February.

“We’ve timed SBC Summit Rio 2025 perfectly so attendees can dive into business and then roll straight into the Carnival. With Afrojack and Dubdogz lighting up the stage, the Carnival kickoff is going to be epic,” Sojmark added.

In October, SBC announced superstar DJ Alok as the headliner for the INFINITY party in Rio. However, Alok has had to step down due to personal reasons. The SBC CEO commented: “Unfortunately, Alok won’t be able to join us at SBC Summit Rio 2025 as originally planned due to personal reasons. We’re as disappointed as you are, but these things happen, and we totally understand.

“We’ve worked quickly to ensure the INFINITY Rio party still delivers the electric energy and unforgettable vibe you’re expecting. With Afrojack and Dubdogz taking the stage, we’re confident they’re the perfect replacements to make the night truly spectacular.”

SBC Summit Rio has quickly established itself as the must-attend event for Brazil and has moved to Riocentro, one of Latin America’s largest convention centres, for its 2025 edition. February’s event is projected to attract more than 15,000 attendees.

Alongside this growth, the introduction of the Super Stage will elevate the attendee experience, while the Affiliate Leaders Summit and Payment Expert Summit brands—both of which debuted in Lisbon—are set to make their Rio debut.

Curious about Brazil’s biggest betting and iGaming event? Visit the official website for more details. Want to join us at the event and INFINITY Rio? Early Bird tickets are available now at R$2000 ( ~ $550 USD). Operators and affiliates can apply for complimentary tickets.

SBC Summit Latinoamérica wrapped up its final edition at the Seminole Hard Rock & Casino with a remarkable 33% rise in attendance, reflecting the event’s increasing influence in the region.

Driven by rising demand, the summit will unite with SBC Summit North America in 2025 to launch as the expansive SBC Summit Americas, premiering in Fort Lauderdale on May 13-15. Bringing together leaders from North, Central, and South America, this enhanced event will serve as a premier hub for collaboration and innovation in the sports betting and igaming landscape across the Americas.

SBC Summit Latinoamérica has been essential in fostering meaningful connections and empowering industry-wide collaboration for the past four years. Andrea Rossi, Commercial Director for LATAM at Betsson called the event “mandatory” for those seeking to stay informed on the latest trends and regional developments. Fernando Garita, CEO of Betsul, echoed the sentiment, referring to the summit as “the most important event for Latin America,” highlighting it as the prime opportunity to connect with key players, tackle industry challenges, and shape the future of the market.

Among the 70 exhibitors at SBC Summit Latinoamérica, ProntoPaga found great success on the buzzing expo floor. “We came with clear goals, and we’ve checked all our boxes this season,” said Elisa Jordan, Chief Commercial Officer. “We’re very pleased with the connections we made and the outcomes from our stand.”

Many attendees highlighted SBC’s unique ability to foster both business growth and personal connections. Alex Fonseca, CEO of Superbet Brazil, underscored the value of networking, stating, “The networking is always great, and it saves me a lot of traveling because I can meet all my providers and partners in one place.”

Iliana Pineda, Chief Legal & Compliance Officer from Wplay.co also praised the event for its effective networking atmosphere, noting that “SBC events create environments where networking is both fun and highly productive.”

This unique blend of casual and professional interaction allowed attendees to connect meaningfully with key regional players. With a targeted focus on Latin America, the event offered what Cecilia Valdés, Executive President of the Asociación Chilena de Casinos de Juego, called “a crucial meeting point for the Latin American industry, for both land-based and online casinos,” making it an essential platform for building relationships and advancing regional initiatives.

From the high-energy opening at DAER Day Club to Wednesday’s iconic gathering at Chase Stadium and the Halloween-themed closing party, SBC’s networking events were more than just social gatherings—they were essential for fostering meaningful connections. As Jordan noted, “At SBC Summit Latinoamérica , half the experience is in the networking events… It’s where the real connections happen. And, of course, Latin Americans know how to throw a great party, so it’s exactly where you want to be.”

With an agenda that left no stone unturned, SBC Summit Latinoamérica set a new standard, driving impactful discussions and valuable insights. The lineup of 200 speakers included icons like football legend René Higuita, motorsport driver Tatiana Calderón, Brazilian Senator Irajá Abreu and Yuri Guerra, General Director of the General Directorate of Casino Games and Slot Machines of Peru, each bringing expertise to cover every facet of the gaming landscape.

Rossi emphasized the value of these panels, stating, “Understanding the perspectives of both market operators and regulators is crucial for navigating Latin America’s dynamic regulatory landscape; the panels provided invaluable insights.” Pérez praised SBC’s ability to stay relevant, noting that SBC consistently “selects the topics that are more relevant at the moment.” Valdés further highlighted the summit’s broad impact, describing how the panels offer a “comprehensive view of how the industry is evolving across various countries, while also bringing fresh perspectives that add depth to the discussions.”

Rasmus Sojmark, CEO and Founder of SBC, remarked, “It’s been rewarding to see the summit foster not only strong business opportunities but also genuine, lasting connections among industry professionals. As we look forward to launching SBC Summit Americas in 2025, we’re excited to expand this spirit of collaboration across North, Central, and South America—creating a unified hub for innovation and progress in the sports betting and igaming sectors.”

Support is already building for SBC Summit Americas, with Rossi of Betsson saying, “It’s an appointment I won’t be missing,” and Garita of Betsul calling it “a big opportunity across all of the Americas.” Pérez of Rush Street Interactive highlights the added “fresh relevance” from the North American presence. Pineda of Wplay.co appreciates SBC’s approach to “integrating different markets and roles under one roof,” while ProntoPaga’s Jordan believes the combined scope will “bring the right people together and add energy.”

“We’ve timed SBC Summit Rio 2025 perfectly so attendees can dive into business and then roll straight into the Carnival. And with Alok’s performance, there’s no better way to kick off the party,” Sojmark added.

Alok has roots in a family of musical pioneers – his parents, Ekanta and Swarup, are psytrance legends – which has helped him become a global name through the combination of Brazilian rhythms with innovative electronic dance music (EDM). His breakout single ‘Hear Me Now’, created alongside Bruno Martini and Zeeba, has racked up nearly 800 million streams on Spotify alone.

Recognised as a leading force in the Brazilian Bass genre, Alok’s powerful basslines and infectious beats have earned him consistent recognition as one of the world’s top DJs. Ranked 4th in DJ Mag’s Top 100 for three consecutive years (2021-2023), he remains a major force in the EDM world.

The DJ’s success goes beyond just his chart-topping music. With nearly 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify and 30 million Instagram followers, he has become a worldwide phenomenon. He has headlined some of the biggest festivals, including Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and Lollapalooza, and has collaborated with renowned artists such as Dua Lipa, Jason Derulo and Ed Sheeran.

In addition to his music, Alok has left his mark on popular culture by becoming a character in the popular battle royale game, Garena Free Fire. His impact on the industry has earned him spots on several prestigious charts, including Billboard’s Dance 100, Forbes Brazil’s 30 Most Influential Brazilians, and Spotify’s Top 100 Global.

Aside from his career, Alok is deeply committed to philanthropy. He founded the Alok Institute, which focuses on supporting education, environmental conservation and social causes in Brazil. As Alok himself said: “Giving is the very purpose of life, and what makes me the happiest.” His efforts to give back extend to the music industry as well—he founded Controversia Records, a sub-label of Spinnin’ Records, and UP Club Records to promote emerging talent.

Sojmark believes that Alok is the perfect act to headline SBC’s second INFINITY: “The INFINITY brand was born in Lisbon, where we hosted our very first EDM-style festival concert featuring big names like Don Diablo, Miss Monique and Darude and the energy that night proved we had created something special. That success confirmed we’re on track, and now INFINITY Rio is taking it to the next level, with star talent like Alok leading the charge and setting a new standard for industry events.”
